Tour Valle Sur Tipón:
The Engineering Marvel of the Inca Empire Our journey begins in Tipón, a site that stands as a testament to the engineering prowess of the Inca Empire. Located approximately 15 kilometers southeast of Cusco, Tipón is renowned for its impressive terraced fields, agricultural terraces, and a complex system of fountains and canals. The precision with which the Incas designed and implemented their agricultural infrastructure in Tipón is a marvel that continues to captivate visitors.
As you explore Tipón, you’ll be struck by the scale and ingenuity of the terraced landscape. The agricultural terraces are not only visually stunning but also serve as a practical example of how the Incas mastered the art of cultivating crops in challenging mountainous terrain. The intricate irrigation system, which is still functional today, highlights the advanced engineering skills of the Inca people.
Tour Valle Sur Pikillacta:
A Glimpse into Pre-Inca Urban Planning Our next stop on the Tour Valle Sur is Pikillacta, a pre-Inca archaeological site that provides a fascinating glimpse into the urban planning of the Wari civilization. Situated about 30 kilometers south of Cusco, Pikillacta is a sprawling complex that once served as a major administrative and ceremonial center for the Wari people.
Wandering through the expansive ruins of Pikillacta, visitors can marvel at the well-preserved remnants of residential areas, administrative buildings, and ceremonial spaces. The Wari, known for their highly organized and planned urban centers, left an indelible mark on the landscape, and Pikillacta stands as a testament to their sophisticated architectural and engineering capabilities.
Tour Valle Sur Andahuaylillas:
The Sistine Chapel of the Andes The final leg of our journey takes us to Andahuaylillas, a charming town celebrated for its colonial church, often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes.” The Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas is a splendid example of colonial architecture and artistry, dating back to the 17th century.
Upon entering the church, visitors are greeted by an awe-inspiring display of religious art and Baroque decoration. The intricately carved wooden altar, gilded details, and a remarkable collection of religious paintings contribute to the church’s status as a cultural gem. The ceiling, adorned with vibrant frescoes depicting scenes from heaven and hell, rivals the grandeur of its European counterpart, the Sistine Chapel.
